What you are looking for is the true Dharma qualities in teachers without getting fooled by some impressive orchestration of high titles, wealth, charisma, influence, good looks, and smooth discourse, any of which might make you distracted from your precious path. Patrul Rinpoche writes,
"For the teachers, the only important qualities that they must have are compassion and the realization of the view. You should not judge them on the basis of whether they are skilled in pretending or in talking; nor on whether they have high designations, or the titles of tulkus, or possess hordes of horses and mules, or are enjoying fancy encampment facilities, or have attractive looks, or gaze around charmingly."
